St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, junior Grace Heidelberger has earned acceptance in the Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology, a summer program offered by the Rutgers School of Engineering, Piscataway.

The four-week program, to be held this July, will consist of five academic classes, an intensive research and design project and on-site visits to local corporations. To qualify, Heidelberger submitted three essays and a list of her high school activities and accomplishments and answered a number of questions from the Governor’s Program judges.

Heidelberger belongs to both the National and Spanish Honor Societies at St. John Vianney High School and serves as vice president of the Future Educators of America Club and secretary of the Animal Awareness Club.  The Lincroft resident is a member of the volleyball team, the spring track team and the mock trial team.

Heidelberger, whose mother Therese is a former chemical engineer, eagerly anticipates the rigorous program at Rutgers.

“I am excited for the whole experience of being away and living on campus for the week and meeting new people and learning new things about engineering,” she said.
