Mercy Sister Linda Travostino, who has served as a World and Classical Language teacher in St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, since 2000, celebrated her 50th anniversary as a Sister of Mercy.

During a Sept. 10 Mass to mark the opening of the new school year, Sister Linda renewed her vows and gave a brief talk about her life as a religious and as an educator.

Celebrant of the Mass was Father Daniel Kirk.

Sister Linda receiver a bachelor’s degree in French from Georgian Court College (now Georgian Court University), Lakewood, and a master of arts degree in French from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Reflecting on her years as a Sister of Mercy, she said, “I feel very fulfilled in my ministry because I can give witness to the people I meet that God is love. My favorite thing about teaching at SJV is working with so many supportive colleagues and the many students who are grateful for all that I impart to them.”

John Niesz, assistant principal of academic affairs said, “It has been a blessing for me knowing Sister Linda for the past two years. She epitomizes the meaning of a ‘religious sister.’ Her smiling face is always a comfort to me and the students. May God continue to show his favor on her work.”

Sister Linda resides in Bradley Beach and is a member of Ascension Parish there. In her free time she enjoys biking, reading and walking along the beach. Sister Linda also volunteers her time at local food pantries and a hospice organization.
