St. John Vianney High School unveils new activities center

St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel has completed construction of a new multi-purpose building to accommodate both academics and athletics at the Monmouth County Catholic school. The 12,000 square foot Vianney Activities Center, funded by the school’s Capitol Campaign, will begin usage for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Father William O’Brien blessed the new VAC Sept. 4 before a group of SJVHS administration, faculty and staff. The new center, set on the 38-acre campus behind the main school, has a steel framed, double-fabric exterior with a domed roof. The $800,000 building’s all-purpose floor can accommodate athletic practices, physical education classes, meetings and other events.

SJVHS President Joseph F. Deroba observed, “This activity center is a dream come true. We are the only Catholic school with a … state-of-the-art facility that really enhances the educational and athletic opportunities for our students.”

In addition to the new VAC, the original gymnasium of the school was updated and remodeled for student use. A new strength and conditioning facility has over 3,600 square feet of space and new equipment, and a multi-tiered music room was constructed for instrument storage and practice space.

Principal Steven C. DiMezza stated, “The SJVHS community is excited about all the changes to our campus. We are eager for everyone to use the improved facilities.”
