The community of St. Joan of Arc School, Marlton, is getting ready to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary, kicking off with a school Mass during the first week of school.

Mary Clare Brandt, marketing director for the school, shared the excitement of her colleagues in discussing the lineup of events being put together.

“St. Joan of Arc School has been a big part of the Marlton community for 50 years,” she said. “We look forward to celebrating and sharing stories and highlights of SJA past and present.”

The first occasion will be an anniversary kick-off Mass for students and faculty on Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. The following weekend, Sept. 12–13, will feature parish kick-off celebrations following all Masses, and open house.

Festivities will continue into the fall, with a 50th anniversary gala planned for Oct. 3, 7 –11 p.m. in the Tavistock Country Club, Haddonfield.

“This event will bring parishioners, faculty and staff past and present, parents past and present, and alumni together for the common purpose of celebrating St. Joan of Arc School,” said Brandt.

The evening will feature hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dancing. Tickets are $75 per person, and a table of ten seats can be purchased for $750. For questions, contact Elisa Del Re at [email protected]. Seating is limited, and those interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

School leaders are also working to organize a young alumni hoagie night, as well as a “beef and beer” evening as one of the closing events for the academic year. The school is encouraging all parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the school to attend.

Brandt said that the anniversary celebrations will also make their way into classrooms throughout the year.

“Students will be celebrating our anniversary by focusing on things that have happened in history since we have been open,” she said, “(and) each month we will celebrate a different decade.”

Staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph, St. Joan of Arc School opened in September 1965, with students entering grades one through five that year. Each year, another grade was added until the eight grades were filled beginning in September 1968. The parish school added kindergarten classes in 1988.

Brandt said that she is looking forward to the yearlong celebration of the Marlton institution’s history and legacy.

“It will be a great way to highlight some of the wonderful things that SJA has to offer,” she said.
