St. James School hosts 'Read, Rock, and Roll'

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

St. James School, Red Bank, is hosting a fun filled free program called “Read, Rock, and Roll” for parent/caregiver and child.  This preschool program incorporates story time, a music session, and a gym class allowing little ones to experience the excitement of being in a friendly learning ‘school’ environment. Getting a head start on preschool education ensures a child’s readiness to enter a fall school program that will be easy, fun, and enjoyable.

The “Read, Rock, & Roll” program is held for six weeks starting Oct. 3 and meets Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. in the school at 30 Peters Place for children age two and a half to five.

READ - Story time classes introduce young children to books, rhymes, crafts, and other fun activities. Each session is tailored to match the children’s different developmental levels and ages, incorporating entertainment along with early literacy and math skills. Children are introduced to vocabulary, phonological awareness, letter recognition, print awareness, narrative skills counting, number matching.

ROCK - Music is fun!  A child’s development is enhanced and a love of music is encouraged through song, dance, movement games, and instruments. With an array of styles, the music class helps children explore the power of rhythm and beat while nurturing key physical, social and intellectual skills. A new musical style is introduced each week.

ROLL - The gym class is an energy filled fitness and tumbling class.  Children learn basic rolling, jumping and movement exercises while increasing their flexibility, balance, and coordination.  The aim is to help improve the children’s listening skills and ability to follow directions within a group.

The story time and music classes will be held in a classroom while the exercise and movement section will be in the gymnasium. This new program will be moderated by teacher Janice Attardi.

Space is limited.  The story times and activities are aimed at preschool children, but all young siblings are welcome including babies and toddlers.  To register, call 732 741-3363, ext. 2.
