The celebration will begin with a noon Mass celebrated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., for the sisters, members of the longest serving active religious community in the Trenton Diocese. The Mass will be followed by a reception in St. James School.
Expected at the celebration are alumnae of the schools – including clergy who graduated from them – who will have the opportunity to reconnect with the sisters including the 20 currently in residence in the St. James Convent, members of the Sisters of Mercy leadership team and retired sisters who reside in the mother house in Watchung.
“Everyone is invited to join in this celebration,” said Veronica Alexander, the parish office manager. “It’s as much of a community celebration as we can make it. The sisters are very well thought of in the community and much beloved.
“If anyone has an affiliation with them or remembers them, this will be a good time to acknowledge them,” Alexander said.
