St. Charles Borromeo School was opened Sept. 9, 1964, with 425 students in grades one through four. Mercy Sister Mary Wendelin was principal, and there were eight faculty members– four Sisters of Mercy and four lay teachers. By 1969, the school had expanded to include grades one through eight and had an enrollment of 709 students. The kindergarten program began in 1979.
Ten years later, the school entered the technology era with the installation of a computer lab, and the entire school had Internet access, with classrooms equipped with computers and Smartboards. In 1994, a school advisory council was established; in 1995, a new kindergarten building was added to house a Pre-K 4 class, and the same year, a CARES program was introduced to provide before and after-school care for students.
Other historical highlights included the establishment of an early childhood program in 1996; a parish summer day camp in 2010, and an alumni association in 2014. The school currently has an enrollment of about 300 students in grades preK-3 through eight and is served by 27 dedicated educators.
