St. Ann Parish to celebrate annual novena

St. Ann Parish, Lawrenceville, will celebrate its annual novena in honor of St. Ann, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus July 18-26. The novena preacher will be Redemptorist Father Matthew Bonk.

Weekday services will include morning Mass, prayer and reflection with novena prayers at 9 a.m., and evening prayer and reflection with novena prayers at 7 p.m. Novena celebrations will take place Saturday (July 23) at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on Sunday (July 24), Mass will be celebrated at 7:30, 9:30 and 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. with novena prayers.

The schedule for the novena includes:

Monday, July 18 – Mercy

Tuesday, July 19 – Unity; coffee and conversation after the morning novena

Wednesday, July 20 – Hope; coffee and conversation after the morning novena

Thursday, July 21 – Charity

Friday, July 22 – Surrender to God; opportunity for Sacrament of Reconciliation both in the morning and evening

Monday, July 25 – Legacy (Good Saint Ann)

Tuesday, July 26 – Our Call to be Saints – Feast Day Mass at 7 p.m.; Candlelight procession; ice cream social

Born in Milan Mich., Father Bonk graduated from Michigan State University in 1990 with a bachelor-of-arts degree in communications. After several years of ministry at StraightLine Homeless Shelter, he began seminary studies for the Diocese of Lansing in Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit.

In 1997, he joined the Redemptorist community. He was professed in 2000 and was sent to Nigeria in 2001, where he worked in Lagos and Ibadan for more than two years. He was ordained a Redemptorist priest in 2004.

His ministry as a priest has included serving with a parish mission team, as a pastor, and serving in Rome to work in the Congregation for the Cause of Saints in the Vatican. He was also the host of a local Catholic TV show, Called to Service, which promoted religious vocations. In 2015, he was assigned to serve on the evangelization team in Brooklyn Center, Minn., where he currently resides.
