St. Ann Parish holds annual novena July 18-26

St. Ann Parish, Lawrenceville, will hold its annual novena to their patron saint from July 18 to 26 in the church at 1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville. The novena, entitled “Walking the Spiritual Journey,” will feature a number of guest speakers and a variety of events, and is designed to celebrate the intercession of the mother of Mary and grandmother to Jesus, a source of inspiration and blessing for Christians all over the world.

Paulist Father Bernie Campbell will present “Questions Jesus asked his disciples” from July 18 to 21, with priests available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation during morning and evening sessions on Friday, July 21. Father Campbell, a Bronx native who was ordained in 1968, spent 34 years in campus ministry in various settings, and as associate director of the Catholic Information Center at the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Mich. He currently resides at the Paulist motherhouse in New York City.

On Saturday, July 22, members of the parish will participate in the “Loaves and Fishes” program, which provides dinner for more than 800 of the area’s hungry. It will take place at St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, 140 North Warren Street, Trenton.

Sessions on July 24 and 25 will be led by Father Jay Bowden in the morning and Jackie Callahan in the evening. Anointing and distribution of St. Ann Oil will occur at both morning and evening sessions.

Father Bowden is a retired priest of the Diocese of Trenton and has served at parishes including St. Raphael, Hamilton; St. Ann, Browns Mills; Epiphany, Brick; and St. Gregory the Great, Hamilton Square. Callahan is a director of religious education in St. Catherine Parish, Middletown, and recently completed graduate certification in “Mercy and Compassion in Comparative Religious” from Georgian Court University, Lakewood.

The novena will culminate in the celebration of the Feast of St. Ann on July 26. Mass will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a procession and ice cream social. The speaker for the evening will be Sister of St. Joseph Sandra DeMasi, former director of the Office of Divine Worship in the Archdiocese of Newark, and current pastoral associate for liturgy in St. Rose of Lima Parish, Short Hills.

The novena will take place at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays and Saturday at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday sessions will be held during the usual Masses scheduled for 7:30, 9:30 and 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The session on July 26 will be held at 7 p.m. only.
