Spring art show, lifeguard training in Brant Beach parish center

St. Francis Community Center, Brant Beach, will host an art show and sale April 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and April 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Community Center Gym located at 4700 Long Beach Blvd.

Amateur and professional artists participate in the show with fine art works encompassing almost every media. These award winning artists and photographers will showcase LBI shore scenes, including the Barnegat Lighthouse, Barnegat Bay, the Shack, NJ historical paintings, plus much more.  Admission is free.

 Lifeguard Training for persons ages 15 and up will begin April 22 and continue through April 26. The course is certified by the American Red Cross. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED & Preventing Disease Transmission.

All participants must complete the following prerequisites: Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick; 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence; 100 yards of either the front crawl or breaststroke. The 100 yards may be a combination of front crawl and breaststroke. Starting in  the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Persons concerned about their ability to complete the pre-requisites are encouraged to schedule a swimming skill evaluation by calling the pool reception desk at 609-494-8861, ext. 187.
