School uniforms were all the rage as junior and senior class officers in St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, held a fashion show Sept. 7 for the freshman class to demonstrate how to properly, and improperly, wear the school’s required uniform.

Michele Langdon, director of student activities, coordinated the event. She said she felt that the freshmen could benefit from the fashion show by learning how to wear their uniforms and avoid detention. 

Junior class officer, Coleton DiMezza, 16, of St. Joseph Parish, Millstone, participated in the event.

“It makes me feel pretty good to know that I can be a role model to my younger classmates,” he said. “I have always liked being a leader, and this was a good opportunity.”

DiMezza said he remembered attending the fashion show when he was a freshman, explaining that he thought he could wear colored T-shirts with his uniform. He learned from the event that was not allowed.

Senior class officer Ashleigh Morrissey, 16, of St. Ambrose Parish, Old Bridge, said she wanted her classmates to have a sense of professionalism from the presentation.

 “Having the ability to influence even just one younger person in the right direction really gives me a sense of accomplishment,” she said, explaining that the presentation she saw when she was a freshman not only helped her in school, but also prepared her for the business world.

Reviewing the dress code, Langdon said the boys are not allowed to have untucked shirts, wear their IDs or have facial hair. For the girls, skirts cannot be too short, colorful hair bands are not allowed and socks must be black or white.
