Six women will be recognized for service at Guild gala

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

The Mount Carmel Guild of Trenton will honor six Catholic women for their service to the community during its 20th annual gala Oct. 16 from 6-10 p.m. in the Trenton Country Club, 201 Sullivan Way, West Trenton.

This year’s program will continue a tradition of honoring women who have dedicated themselves to serving their local communities in a variety of ways. The 2015 honorees are Loretta Bercuk, chair, social concerns committee, St. David the King Parish, Princeton Junction; Cecilia Gallucci, volunteer, St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square; Milady Gonzalez, volunteer, St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton; Mary Lombardo, youth director, CRASH Club, St. James Parish, Pennington; Franciscan Sister Maureen Maguire, chaplain, St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton; Mary Meyer, volunteer, St. Paul Parish, Princeton.

While each honoree represents a distinct personal and professional background, each has made it a priority to contribute time and resources to a variety of community organizations in need.

The gala will consist of a dinner and silent auction, with proceeds supporting the Guild’s programs serving those most in need in the community.

The Mount Carmel Guild, an inner-city Trenton, diocesan-based social service agency, provides assistance primarily through its Emergency Assistance Program and Home Health Nursing Program.

The Emergency Assistance component of the Guild’s work includes providing a three-to-five day supply of food, emergency prescription assistance and utility assistance.  In 2014, the Guild distributed 17,450 bags of food to more than 8,400 households.

The Home Health Nursing Program provides in-home nursing services to seniors with the goal that they can remain in their own home. On average Guild nurses visit 50 patients every two weeks.
