Six Dates program for Catholic married couples

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

Building and strengthening marriages begins with husbands and wives making time to be with each other and having fun together. In a world full of competing demands for their time and attention, such as children, work and other commitments, spending time together is often a rare commodity for couples. The strength of marriages is a concern of the Catholic Church because marriage is the heart of the family.

Recognizing the need for married couples to have some quality time together and strengthen their married life, the Northern Burlington Regional Adult Faith Formation Ministry will sponsor “Six Dates for Catholic Couples,” which is a six-part video series created by John and Teri Bosio that was developed in response to the United States Catholic Bishops’ Pastoral Letter – Marriage: Love and Life in the Divine Plan.

The “Six Dates” program will be held on the following Wednesday evenings, Feb. 19 and 26; March 12 and 19 and April 2 and 9 at 7 p.m. in Holy Cross High School, 5035 Route 130 South, Delran.

Each session will be facilitated by Art Younglove, a member of Resurrection Parish, Delran, and an experienced Marriage Encounter presenter. After viewing a video, the couples will be given quiet time to reflect on the topic. The couples will then convene for group discussion and a question and answer session. The schedule of video “date” topics are:

Feb. 19 • “Once Upon a Time” – Invites couples to remember how their love story began and how it has a special meaning because it is connected to God’s love story;

Feb. 26 • “Marriage is” – Focuses on the beliefs of a Catholic marriage;

March 12 • “What Keeps You Together?”• Focuses on the goodness that couples see in each other which is what keeps husbands and wives together;

March 19 • “What About Me?” • Address the problem of selfishness in marriage;

April 2 • “The Blueprint of Love” • Suggest that to overcome selfishness, couples need to learn to love as Christ loves by focusing on acceptance, commitment, sacrifice, forgiveness, healing and service;

April 9 • “Where Do We Find the Courage?” • Serves as a reminder to couples that prayer and God’s grace can help them endure the challenges they encounter in their married lives.

Registration fee is $20 per couple and includes a copy of the book, “Happy Together” and materials.

To register, contact Pat Brooks at 856-461-6555 or email: [email protected]. Deadline to register is Feb. 12.
