A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 19 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Paula Marie MacDonnell who died Oct. 16. She was 83.

Born in Dorchester, Mass., Sister Paula Marie worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Moore Machine Company, Roxbury. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1953 and professed her first vows in 1956. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa., and a master’s degree in business from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. She ministered primarily in education, both on elementary and secondary levels in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware as well as in parish ministry in Delaware and North Carolina.

In the Trenton Diocese, Sister Paula Marie taught in Immaculate Conception School, Trenton, from 1957 to 1958, and St. Anthony High School, Trenton, from 1972 to 1977.

Following her retirement, she lived in Our Lady of Angels Convent, Aston, Pa., from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, she moved to Assisi House where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Paula Maire is survived by a brother, three sisters, nieces, nephews and by her Franciscan Family.

Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston. Memorial donations may be sent to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa. 19014.
