A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Sisters’ Chapel in Stella Niagara, N.Y., Feb. 29 for Sister Mary Clement Schubert, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity. She died Feb. 25 in the Stella Niagara Health Center at age 84.

Sister Mary Clement entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity Sept. 5, 1990 at Stella Niagara. She professed first vows Aug. 18, 1953 and perpetual vows Aug. 18, 1956. She held a bachelor of science degree in education from Rosary Hill College, Amherst, N.Y., and a master of arts degree in pastoral ministry in counseling from Boston College.

In her years of ministry, Sister Mary Clement served in various capacities including as a teacher, nurse’s aide, maintenance coordinator and parish outreach coordinator in schools and parishes in the Dioceses of Buffalo, Columbus, Ohio, and Trenton. In the Trenton Diocese, she was principal of St. Agnes School, Atlantic Highlands, from 1972-1974.

She also spent time in Italy, serving as generalate for her community in Rome and as an educator in schools in Tanzania and Kenya.

Sister Mary Clement is survived by four sisters; three brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews and members of her community.

Burial was in Stella Niagara Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, 4421 Lower River Rd., Stella Niagara, N.Y. 14144.
