Sister Mary Assisium McGlinn, at 88

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 6 in McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, for Mercy Sister Mary Assisium McGlinn who died Nov. 2. She was 88.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Sister Mary Assisium entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1941. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Villanova University.

Sister Mary Assisium taught in schools in several New Jersey dioceses. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in St. Paul School, Burlington, from 1954-1958; St. Paul School, Princeton, from 1958-1960, and Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville, from 1960-1963. She also ministered in Spring House, a shelter for homeless women based in Eatontown, from 1990-1993.

In 1991, she retired to St. James Convent, Red Bank, and moved to McAuley Hall Health Care Center in 2004.

Sister Mary Assisium is survived by one brother, Robert McGlinn of Ridley Park, Pa., and several nieces, nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic Community, Mount St. Mary, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, N.J. 07069.
