A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 626 S. Olden Ave., Hamilton, for Franciscan Sister Marie Anthony Heiss who died July 30 in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, at age 88.

Sister Marie Anthony ‘s most recent ministry was serving as an office assistant in Trenton Catholic Academy, Hamilton, where she worked from 2005 to 2012.

Sister Marie Anthony was a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 65 years. The former Mary Antoinette Heiss was born in Zieglersville, Pa., then later moved to Philadelphia. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1945 and professed her first vows in 1947. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa., and a master’s degree in pastoral counseling from Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y.

Sister Marie Anthony began her years in ministry in the Diocese of Trenton as a novice and continued serving there until her death. She taught in St. Anthony School, Hamilton, from 1946-1950, 1972-1975 and 1981-2005; St. Raphael School, Hamilton, from 1950-1951; Immaculate Conception School, Trenton, from 1951-1957, and Corpus Christi School, Willingboro, from 1959-1963. She was principal of Immaculate Conception School from 1963-1972 and Holy Angels School, Hamilton, from 1975-1981. She also ministered in St. Francis Medical Center from 1957-1959.

Calling hours will be held in St. Anthony Church Aug. 5 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and Aug. 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. when the funeral Mass will begin.

Sister Marie Anthony is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and her Franciscan family.

Burial will be in our Lady of Angels Cemetery, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa. 19014.
