Funeral services were to be held Sept. 5 and 6 in Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, Mount Alvernia, Reading, Pa., for Bernardine Franciscan Sister Julia Ladzinski, who died Sept. 3 at Tower Health-Reading Hospital at age 96.

Sister Julia’s Sept. 6 Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated by her brother, Msgr. Casimir Ladzinski, a retired priest of the Diocese.

Born in Cambridge (Delran) in 1922, Sister Julia, whose baptismal name was Hedwig, entered the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Third Order Regular of St. Francis Aug. 11, 1941, and was a member of the order for 78 years. She held a bachelor of science degree in education from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.; and served as an elementary school teacher, principal, superior, director of religious education, pastoral caregiver and local minister in schools and parishes in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In the Trenton Diocese, she served in St. Casimir Parish and School, Riverside (now part of Resurrection Parish, Delran), and St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton Square.

In addition to her brother, Sister Julia is survived by a niece and a nephew and members of her Bernardine Franciscan community. Burial was in the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters’ Cemetery, Mount Alvernia.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters, 450 St. Bernardine Street, Reading, PA 19607-1737.
