Sister Elizabeth Garvey, was educator

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in St. Ann Church, 311 Carr Ave., Keansburg, for Mercy Sister Elizabeth Garvey who died Aug. 27 in Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark. She was 82.

Sister Elizabeth, the former Sister Mary Andre, was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School and she held a master’s degree in education from Georgian Court University, Lakewood. Sister Elizabeth entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1950. For 28 years, she served as a teacher or principal in the Dioceses of Camden, Metuchen, Trenton and in Portland, Maine.  She also served the past 31 years working with senior citizens as the director of the Bayshore Senior Day Center, Keansburg.

A wake will be held Aug. 30 from 2 to 7 p.m. in St. Ann Church with the funeral Mass starting at 7.

Sister Elizabeth is survived by a sister and brother and their spouses and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Burial will be Aug. 31 in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cutchogue, Long Island.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sister of Mercy Mid-Atlantic Community, 1645 U.S. Highway 22, Watchung, N.J. 07069.
