A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 24 in St. Catherine of Siena Chapel in McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, for Mercy Sister Edwarda Barry who died July 20. She was 89. Born in Trenton, Sister Edwarda attended Blessed Sa crament Sch o ol and Cathedral High Sch o ol, b oth in Trenton. After entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1942 she pursued studies in Ge orgian Cour t Universit y, Lakewood, and Fordham Universit y, New York, where she re ceived a do ctorate in so ci ol o gy. As an educator, Sister Edwarda taught i n St . J o h n S ch o o l , L a m b e r t v i l l e ; St . J o h n S ch o ol, Collingsw o o d, and St. Mar y Sch o ol, South Amb oy. She be came the first chair of the so ci ol o gy depar tment in Ge orgian Cour t College. She w orked in so cial concerns in St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen, and was the l o cal leader of the Mercy Sisters in St. James Parish, Red Bank. She was co-founder of the House of Prayer in Mount St. Mar y, and co-dire ctor of the Center for Christian Concerns in Ge orgian Cour t. She was also an assistant to the president of Ge orgian Cour t and currently ser ved as the universit y historian.

Sister Edwarda is sur vived by nie ces, nephews, cousins, grandni e ces
and grandnephews.

Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemeter y, South Plainfield.
