Sister Claire Grieco, native of Trenton Diocese

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 14 in Villa Walsh, Morristown, for Filippini Sister Claire Grieco who died Oct. 8 in St. Joseph Villa at Villa Walsh. She was 83.
Born in Long Branch in 1930, Sister Claire entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1949, received her habit in 1950, and made her religious profession in 1953.
Sister Claire was awarded a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Fordham University and attended Rider University, Lawrenceville, to study business education. She served in schools in the Archdioceses of Newark, Baltimore and New York and in the Dioceses of Trenton, Metuchen, Camden, Brooklyn and Providence, R.I. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in St. James School, Trenton, from 1956-1957 and from 1966-1967; St. Joachim School, Trenton, from 1957-1958, and was the principal of Holy Trinity School, Long Branch, from 1977-1982.
Sister Claire was honored in 1992 by the Metuchen Diocese for Excellence in Education. With her administrative experience, she was appointed by her community to serve as administrator of Villa Walsh’s home health care center. In 2005, St. Joseph Hall, a new health care facility at Villa Walsh, was ready for occupancy. She was instrumental in setting a new direction for this latest building. Administering in St. Joseph was the summit of Sister Claire’s ministry.
Sister Claire is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, three nieces and four nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.
