A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 21 in Our Lady of Peace Residence, Scranton, Pa., for Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Cecilia Marie Tippen, who died Oct. 15 in St. Joseph Convent, Scranton.

Sister Cecilia served in the Trenton Diocese as a teacher in Sacred Heart School, Mount Holly from 1969-1971.

Born in 1939 to Edweard and Winona Gray Tippen, Sister Cecilia Marie entered the Immaculate Heart of Mary community Sept. 8, 1957; made her temporary profession of vows March 14, 1960, and her final profession of vows March 14, 1965. She earned bachelor and master of arts degrees in elementary education from Marywood College, Scranton.

In addition to her Mount Holly assignment, she served in parochial schools in Pennsylvania and New  York. She also served as a computer operator in the Marian Convent, Scranton.

Sister Cecilia Marie is survived by one brother, one sister and members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary congregation.

Burial was in St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to support the retired IHM Sisters, c/o the IHM Sisters Retirement Fund, IHM Center, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18509.
