Sister Cecil Gabriel DePrisco dies at age 100

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 1 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Cecil Gabriel DePrisco, who died June 27. She would have celebrated her 101st birthday on July 15.

A professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 79 years, Sister Cecil Gabriel entered the congregation in 1929 and professed her first vows in 1932. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University in 1956 and ministered primarily in elementary and secondary education. She served in schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 63 years; for nine years in the Diocese of Trenton and for nine years in the Diocese of Allentown, Pa. In the Trenton Diocese, she was assigned to Holy Angels School, Hamilton, from 1945 to 1954.

When Sister Cecil Gabriel moved to Assisi House, she served in prayer ministry until the time of her death.

Sister Cecil Gabriel was recently given official recognition by the Delaware County “in grateful acknowledgement of distinguished service and exemplary citizenship.”

Sister Cecil Gabriel is survived by a niece, a nephew and by her Franciscan family.

Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa. 19014.
