Sister Carol Ann Zurlo, served in nursing ministry in Mercer, Burlington counties

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 29 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Carol Ann Zurlo who died April 25. She was 78.

A professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 54 years, Sister Carol Ann was born in Trenton and graduated from Upper Freehold Township High School. Prior to entering religious life in 1959, Sister Carol Ann studied nursing and became a registered nurse in St. Francis Medical Center’s School of Nursing, Trenton. She professed her first vows in 1961. Sister Carol Ann earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Neumann University, Aston, Pa., and a master of science degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America, Washington. She also later became a pediatric nurse practitioner and ministered in healthcare in various capacities.

Sister Carol Ann served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 22 years;  in the Diocese of Trenton for 21 years, as well as in Lancaster, Pa.;

Sister Carol Ann served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 22 years;  in the Diocese of Trenton for 21 years, as well as in Lancaster, Pa.;  in Hayesville, N.C., and as administrator of St. Francis Convent, Ringwood.  In the Trenton Diocese she ministered in St. Francis Medical Center, Morris Hall, Lawrenceville, and was the school nurse in the former All Saints School, Burlington. She also served on the provincial council for the former St. Anthony Province which was based in Trenton.

She retired to Assisi House in 2008 where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Carol Ann is survived by a sister, two brothers, nephews, her cousin who is also a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia and her Franciscan family.

Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston.
