A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 7 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Anne McMahon who died Oct. 4. She was 98.

A professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 76 years the former Sister Catherine Philomene was born in Scariff, County Clare, Ireland. She entered the congregation in 1936 and professed her first vows in 1949. She held a bachelor of arts degree in social science from Neumann University, Aston, and ministered primarily in education, child care and pastoral ministry.

Sister Anne’s years of ministry included 14 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia; 26 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore; 18 years in the Diocese of Charleston, S.C. In the Diocese of Trenton, she served in St. Anthony School, Hamilton, and St. Michael Orphanage, Hopewell. Other locations where she was assigned included Delaware, North Carolina, and Massachusetts.

Sister Anne is survived by a niece, nephews and her Franciscan family. Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa. 19014.
