Sister Anna Eleuteri was Trenton native

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 21 in St. Lucy Chapel at Villa Walsh, Morristown, for Filippini Sister Anna Eleuteri who died Feb. 16. She was 93.

Born in Trenton, Sister Anna was a member of St. James Parish, which is now part of Incarnation-St. James Parish, Ewing. She entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1931; received the religious habit in 1936, and her final religious profession in 1939. She was awarded a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Seton Hall University, South Orange.

Sister Anna taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Newark, and the Dioceses of Pittsburgh; Providence, R.I., Ogdensburg, N.Y.; Camden and in Trenton Diocesan parishes that are now part of the Metuchen Diocese. She also spent 18 years as principal and superior in the Archdiocese of Newark.

In 2003, she was awarded the Bishop’s Medal for meritorious service in the Camden Diocese. The award is presented to one who exemplifies excellence in helping to build and support the Church.

Sister Anna is survived by a sister, sister-in-law, niece, nephew and other nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Ave Maria Cemetery.
