Sharing good news is commitment to witness
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
February is Catholic Press Month, a time that we pause to reflect on the roles and responsibilities of Catholic publishing overall, and your diocesan newspaper, in particular.
The Monitor is very proud to continue to bring to its readers – both in print and online – a robust collection of news and features, all with the aim of keeping them informed about their faith and its impact on everyday life and happenings. We have long considered ourselves the Catholic community newspaper for the Diocese of Trenton, and were once described in a journalism competition as “intensely local.” At the same time we are committed to report on hard-hitting topics from around the world and the United States, particularly those that call us to give witness to our belief in Gospel values, such as our reporting on poverty or immigration.
As newspaper budgets shrink and many dioceses are opting to cut back on their news operation, we are thankful to have the support of our publisher, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., who is himself an avid consumer of news and a proponent of keeping in contact with his flock through the pages and clicks of The Monitor.
I would like to take this moment to thank our very talented and hard-working staff and partners for all that they bring to this ministry. And most importantly, during Catholic Press Month, we salute you, the readers, for finding value in this newspaper and continuing to support it. God bless!
