Seminar slated to assist those who work with families

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

“Families face myriad challenges at home and in the work place. We, as ministers, need to have an awareness of these various challenges, whether it be a family member with a disability, single  parenting or someone who is dealing with a loss, including a broken marriage,” explained Linda Richardson, diocesan director, Department of Youth, Marriage and Family Life.

To assist ministers in being an effective resource for families, a seminar, “Ministering to Families in Difficult Situations,” will be held in the Diocesan Chancery, Lawrenceville, Feb. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The seminar, co-sponsored by the Department of Youth, Marriage and Family Life and the Department of Pastoral Care, is designed for those who work or volunteer with families, and will provide new tools for the ministry while exploring ways to help families cope with unexpected or challenging situations.

Presentations for the seminar will be made by Richardson; John Kalinowski, director, Department of Pastoral Care; and Janis Bell, diocesan advocate for persons with disabilities.

“We, as Church, need to stand by people in their difficult times as well as in their times of happiness,” said Richardson. “We need to have resources to help people to cope with the current challenge, and grow in and through the particular situations in their lives,” she added.

Attendance at the seminar may be applied to the Diocesan Certificate in Marriage and Family Ministry.

Cost for the seminar is $10. Continental breakfast is provided, but participants are asked to bring a bag lunch.

For more information, contact Richardson at 609-403-7155.
