The community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Maple Shade, is making preparations to celebrate 85 years of dedication to Catholic edu-cation.
A special celebration planned for April 25 will include Mass and a dinner, and organizers are working to mobilize current students and alumni to share in the experience.
When speaking about the meaning of this milestone for the Maple Shade institution, Lynda Martin, marketing director for the parish and school, said that it is all about legacy.
“It is the legacy of being around for 85 years, and the really neat part of it is that the students that have graduated from OLPH from years and years ago are the ones who are more excited about the anniversary,” she said. “They have been bringing us mementos and pictures, sending me emails with their memories of the school (and) coming in for visits.”
The April 25 celebration will begin with a 5 p.m. Mass in the church, during which students will be dressed in their uniforms and will serve in a variety of ministries, including singing in the choir and handing out programs to guests.
Mass will be followed with a 6:30 p.m. dinner in Marco’s Restaurant at the Pennsauken Country Club.
Martin said that the institution recently celebrated a special Mass for alumni as part of the anniversary festivities, which included a reception and the chance to share photos and stories from their years in the institution. The alumni were also presented with a special pin to commemorate their graduation from Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Martin said that school and parish leaders encourage alumni to register for the April 25 celebration as well.
Tickets will be available beginning Feb. 6, for $75 each, and can be purchased online by visiting www.olphparish.com.
Organizers are also currently looking for more photos and stories that can be added to a commemorative booklet for the evening. Those with materials to share, or anyone who wants to learn more, can contact Lynda Martin at [email protected].
