A very happy and emotional reunion took place in Holy Family School, Lakewood, on Veterans Day.

Sara Malivasio, a three-year-old student in the school’s Pre-K program, was reunited with her father, Joseph Malivsio, a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves, who had returned home after a three-month stint serving overseas.

Carol D’Aloia, the school’s marketing director, said that Sara knew her father was due to return home, but did not know when. All she and her classmates were told was that a “very special Veteran” was coming to visit. The class prepared cards and made special hats. Sara’s card greeting read “Welcome Home, Daddy.”

D’Aloia said that the class was singing God Bless America as he walked through the door. Sara could not wait to run to her father and greet him with a hug, kiss and her greeting card.

“It was a very touching reunion for the family and all of us there,” D’Aloia said, then added that Sara’s mother, Sandra, and baby brother, Aidan, were also in attendance.
