St. Peter Altar-Rosary Society, Point Pleasant Beach, will host the 18th annual Regional Mass and luncheon Oct. 7 on the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary. Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will be the main celebrant and homilist at the 11 a.m. Mass in St. Peter Church, 406 Forman Ave., Point Pleasant Beach.  He will be joined by clergy of the 11 participating parishes in the area.

The luncheon is a yearly event that brings together the Rosarians from the following parishes: St.Peter; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Seaside Heights; St. Barnabas, Bayville; St. Denis, Manasquan; St. Martha, Point Pleasant; St. Pio of Pietrelcina, Lavallette; Sacred Heart, Bay Head; St. Catharine of Siena, Seaside Park; St. Dominic, Brick; St. Mary of the Lake, Lakewood, and Visitation, Brick.   This year, there will be 250 participants, including clergy, members, and guests.

The theme of the day includes “Dominican Roots of our Rosary Family.”  Pope Francis established this “Year of Consecrated Life” which extends from Nov. 30, 2014 to Feb. 2, 2016.  The gathering will honor the consecrated members of Mary’s Rosary Family, the Dominican Nuns of Perpetual Adoration and Rosary, Our Lady of the Rosary Shrine, Summit. Dominican Sister Maureen will lead in the Rosary.  Dominican Sister Mary Cecilia will be the guest speaker at the luncheon following the Mass in The Mill in Spring Lake Heights.

Some of the members of the Altar Rosary Society will give a dramatic presentation following lunch on the life of the Blessed Mother based on some of the Mysteries of the Rosary and other biblical references.  This presentation is an original drama written, produced and directed by St. Peter Rosarian member, Emer O’Mahony.

The program begins at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter Church with members of the participating 11 neighboring parishes praying the Rosary for the persecuted Christians throughout the world.

The purpose of the Altar Rosary Society is to honor the Blessed Mother through her Rosary and to assist in the needs of the Church.  The society was started by the Dominican Order.  Dominican Father Jacob Spenger, established the first group on Sept. 8, 1475 in the Dominican Church at Cologne, Germany.  According to the Rosarian’s Handbook: as part of the Dominican Family, members share in the good works of the Dominican Order which includes the prayers, mortifications, apostolic works  for the salvation of souls, and Masses of the whole Order, throughout the world.
