Religious freedom events planned

Parishes across the diocese will join their counterparts around the nation participating in the Fortnight for Freedom from June 21, the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, through July 4, Independence Day. The following events and initiatives are planned:
St. Mary Parish, Barnegat
A Holy Hour will be held on June 26 at 7 p.m. in the church at 747 West Bay Avenue. For information, call 609-698-5531.
St. Dominic Parish, Brick
After all Masses the United States Catholic Conference for Bishop’s prayer will be prayed in the church at 250 Old Squan Road. For information, call 732-840-1410.
St. Ann Parish, Browns Mills
The homily and liturgy during Masses June 23 and 24 in the church at 22 Trenton Road will reflect the Fortnight for Freedom initiative. For information, call 609-893-3246.
St. Charles Borromeo, Cinnaminson
The opening Mass on June 21 and the closing Mass on July 4, both at 9 a.m., in the church at 2226 Riverton Road, will have special intentions for the protection of our religious liberty. An afternoon movie “A Man for All Seasons” will be shown June 29 at 1:30 p.m. in McCusker Hall. There will be daily prayer and rosary with special intentions. For information, call 856-829-3322.
Incarnation-St. James Parish, Ewing
A day of prayer, fasting and adoration is planned in the church at 1545 Pennington Road. A symposium consisting of a pro-life speaker, moderator, and panelists who are informed on the subject is planned. Dates to be announced. For information, call 609-882-2860.
St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Hightstown
Three Holy Hours will be held June 22, 29 and July 30 in the chapel at 251 Franklin St. at 7 p.m. For information call 609-448-0141.
St. Benedict Parish, Holmdel
At all daily and weekend Masses, the United States Catholic Conference of Bishop’s prayer will be recited by the congregation at the conclusion of the prayer of the Faithful in the church at 165 Bethany Road. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held June 22 to 29 from 7 to 8 p.m. Adoration will conclude with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. For information, call 732-264-4712.
St. Catharine Parish, Holmdel
The Fortnight for Freedom prayer will be recited at each Mass in the church at 108 Middletown Road. For information, call 732-842-3963.
St. John Parish, Lakehurst
A Holy Hour is planned for religious freedom July 3 at noon in the church at 609 Chestnut Street. During this hour the Rosary will be recited, along with various prayers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. For information, call 732-657-6347.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Maple Shade
A novena will be held throughout the 14 days of the Fortnight for Freedom in the church at 236 E. Main Street after the 9 a.m. Masses. Parishioners will be encouraged to sign letters to legislators and representatives July 1 encouraging them to co-sponsor a Respect for Rights of Conscience Act. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held July 3 at 7:30 a.m. Concluding the 14 days on July 4, the Novena will include the Litany and Benediction. For information, call 856-667-8850.
St. Joan of Arc, Marlton
Evening prayer will be held during Eucharistic Adoration June 21 at 6:30 p.m. followed by Benediction in the church at 100 Willow Bend Road. A special Mass will be held June 22 at 7 p.m. to pray for religious freedom. A Novena to St. Thomas More (patron saint of religious liberty) will be said after the 9 a.m. Masses from June 25 to July 3. A nine-week Adoration Novena will be held every Tuesday evening from June 28 to Aug. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. Each week a different threat to religious freedoms will be highlighted from various parts of the world, beginning with our own country. St. Mary of the Lakes Parish, Medford
The Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service July 1 after the 9 a.m. Mass in front of the church at 40 Jackson Road. A Mass for religious freedom will be celebrated July 4 at 9 a.m. The Rosary group will pray for religious freedom every day throughout the fortnight, after every daily Mass at 7:15 and 9 a.m., every day at 4:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. Rosaries and instruction pamphlets will be provided. Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Moorestown
The Knights of Columbus will host a special showing of “A Man for All Seasons,” the story of St. Thomas More June 22 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria at 23 W. Prospect Avenue. Father James O’Neill, parochial vicar, will introduce the film and lead a brief discussion afterwards regarding St. Thomas More’s example for us as we defend religious liberty in the United States. Holy Cross Parish, Rumson
