The Northern Burlington Regional Adult Faith Formation committee is kicking off its third year of ministry with two Scripture study series on Thursday evenings in Holy Cross High School, 5035 Route 130 South, Delran.
A nine-week DVD series on Galatians: Set Free to Live, that features internationally known Scripture scholar, Jeff Cavins, is currently underway with sessions meeting Sept. 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 starting at 7 p.m. in the conference room located on the school’s first floor.
Through his presentations, Cavins will guide participants in their study of Paul’s letter to the Galatians and how the letter speaks directly to the heart of Christians and addresses the question, “What must we do to be saved?” Participants will explore how the letter reveals the merciful love that God the father has for all of his children and the extraordinary gift of salvation that Jesus has won for all people through his Passion, Death and Resurrection. Scripture study facilitator is Lisa Welch, a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Burlington.
Beginning Oct. 3, Adrienne Iannuzzi of Sacred Heart Parish, Riverton, will facilitate a 24-session DVD series on the Acts of the Apostles, also starting at 7 p.m. in Holy Cross’ media center. Sessions will be held Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, Nov. 14, 21, Dec. 5, 12, Jan.(2014) 9, 16, 23, 30, Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27, April 3, 10, May 1 and 8.
The series, which also features Cavins, provides an historic framework for understanding the New Testament. Through their studies, participants will follow the way of the apostles as they preached the Gospel from Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria and throughout the world. Participants will relate to the joys and challenges of the early Christians as they strived to live a Christ-centered life.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the Regional Adult Faith Formation Ministry will host a presentation on Medical Care Near the End of Life with Father Michael Manning at 7 p.m. in Holy Cross High School.
Father Manning, who is pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Rumson, and a medical physician, will speak about planning for care near the end of life from a Catholic perspective. Areas of discussion will include advance directives, hospice care, sedation, discontinuing life support, nutrition and hydration, organ donation and brain death. Topics will vary according to the questions and concerns of the participants and always include a brief discussion on ordinary and extraordinary medical care according to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
The Northern Burlington Regional Deanery Adult Faith Formation is a collaborative effort of six parishes – Resurrection, Delran; Jesus the Good Shepherd, Riverside; Sacred Heart, Riverton; St. Charles Borromeo, Cinnaminson; Corpus Christi, Willingboro, and Sts. Francis and Clare, Florence Township, and Holy Cross High School.
