Red Bank Catholic High School students and faculty members participated in The Ridge Road Run April 15.

The event was a collaborative charity effort organized in conjunction with Rumson Fair-Haven and Red Bank Regional High Schools. The high school communities have recently dealt with the devastating loss associated with teen suicide, and students from the three schools organized to find a positive way to honor their friends and bring awareness, as well as remove the stigma associated with mental illness and depression.

More than 1,400 runners braved the unfavorable weather conditions to run in either a one-mile sprint or 5K endurance race. The event had dozens of sponsors who contributed various merchandise, racing equipment and volunteers.

After the completion of the race, student representatives presented a check for $118,000 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Association of Monmouth County.

RBC students and officials said they were honored to be part of this very successful event to bring awareness about mental health issues facing young adults.
