Ray Wadsworth leaves behind a legacy for helping others

Ray Wadsworth, who died May 31 of this year will be posthumously honored by the Mount Carmel Guild.

Born May 29, 1938, he was an active member of St. Paul Parish in Princeton since he was 18 years old. He considered his parish his second home and fellow parishioners his family considering he had been raised in an orphanage.

In St. Paul Parish, Mr. Wadsworth was head usher for many years; he founded the outdoor Stations of the Cross 22 years ago; was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights with the Princeton Council, Knights of Columbus. With his pastor, Msgr. Joseph N. Rosie, he also helped to start the celebration of a Blue Mass for law enforcement personnel; he was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul conference, was a member of the parish council and was an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. He always looked forward to help decorating the church for Christmas and Easter.

In the Princeton community, Mr. Wadsworth was a former borough councilman, Princeton Fire Chief and community volunteer. He founded the Spirit of Princeton, an organization that organizes and sponsors patriotic-themed events in town including the Memorial Day Parade, fireworks, Flag Day and Veterans Day. He coached little league football and was a Boy Scout leader for troop #88.  He and his wife Jackie founded the Post Prom Party at Princeton High School.

Mr. Wadsworth and his wife were married 60 years ago and they had two children, Keith and Kathleen. They also have three grandsons, Keith, Jesse and Andrew.

Mr. Wadsworth demonstrated his concern for others in various ways including his having  purchased an old fire truck that was in excellent condition, but outdated by state regulations to use in Princeton. After purchasing the truck for $1, he sent it to Nicaragua, where only buckets of water are used to extinguish fires.

Mr. Wadsworth’s wife will accept the award on his behalf.
