More than 75 priests, diocesan employees and supporters came out for the first annual Bishop John C. Reiss Memorial Golf Outing, together raising close to $70,000 to benefit the charitable trust for the aged, infirmed and disabled priests of the Diocese of Trenton. Proceeds will help to maintain Villa Vianney, the priests’ retirement residence located in Lawrenceville, and to provide for the healthcare needs of retired priests. This year’s event, hosted by the Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake Heights, is the first since 1996 to be renamed in honor of Bishop Reiss, who held the distinction of being the only native son of the diocese to serve as both an auxiliary bishop and as bishop in his home diocese. Bishop Reiss, who was the eighth bishop of Trenton, died March 4 at age 89. Pictured, Carmel Fontana of Bollinger, an insurance brokerage firm that works with the diocese, putts as her teammates look on. Also pictured, Deacon Bill Wilson of St. Gregory the Great Parish, Hamilton, director of the diocesan Office of Property and Construction, finishes taking a shot on the course.
