Priest crafts a touching tribute to 9/11 victims
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Father Ariel Robles, parochial vicar in St. James Parish, Red Bank, designed and created this memorial, which was placed in the church as a 9/11 remembrance.
Father Robles, known to parishioners as a very quiet, humble, creative priest, came to the United States from the Philippines in 2008, and has been setting up 9/11 memorials in St. James Church every year since 2009. The names of all 9/11 victims are listed in alphabetical order in the stripes of the flag pictured.
Father Robles made the steel cross replica, seen above, last year, and this year he created the banner. In the glass jar are the names of 9/11 victims from St. James Parish. Parishioners are invited to take the names from the jar, and to remember the families of the victims and pray for peace. Father Robles created both the flag and the steel cross replica in the rectory basement. Photos courtesy St. James Parish
