Presentation on papal encyclical to be held in St. James Parish

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

St. James Parish, Pennington, will host a presentation on Pope Francis’ recent encyclical about the environment Oct. 21 at 7:15 p.m. in the church. “Laudato Si: A Discussion on the Meaning and Impact for our Church and our World,” will be led by Mark Rohlena of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington.

“People in town have been asking our parishioners for the Catholic Church’s position on the paper,” reported Nancy Lukash, director of religious education for St. James Parish. “The USCCB was eager to send someone to speak here when we asked.”

Rohlena, formerly CEO of Catholic Charities of Central Colorado, is the U.S. Bishops’ director of domestic social development with a special emphasis on poverty. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Christendom College, Front Royal, Va., and a law degree from the Ave Maria School of Law, Ann Arbor, Mich.

Admission to the presentation is free. For further information, email [email protected], or check the parish’s Facebook page at St. James Church. The church is located at 115 E. Delaware Avenue, Pennington.
