Praying for families in St. Alphonsus Parish, Hopewell
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
During the final religious education class for the year, the students in St. Alphonsus Parish, Hopewell, prayed a “Living Rosary” for the fruitfulness/success of the World Meeting of Families in September, Pope Francis’ intentions, and for the United States’ openness to his message of love, peace and justice. The goal of the Living Rosary was to have the children to pray for this historic meeting, the Pope, and the country, in an active, visual and memorable way.
The idea was born when a parent of a First Holy Communion student shared that she always remembered praying the “Living Rosary” as a child. The parish proceeded to have each child represent a bead by holding up a colored paper plate, when they prayed.
An added element to the Living Rosary was learning that student Allisa Conover is earning her Girl Scout Silver Award on promoting praying the Rosary among children. Conover offered to prepare the plates, with the prayers on the back, and led the Rosary by moving from child to child as they said the prayers.
