Despite the current Atlantic Ocean water temperature averaging over 70 degrees, plans are already underway to brave the waves of the Atlantic Ocean for next year’s 10th annual Ancient Order of Hibernians Patrick Torphy Division of Middletown Polar Plunge for Catholic Education.

The organization will host a kick-off planning meeting for the Jan. 10, 2016, plunge in Rooney’s Restaurant, Long Branch, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. Rooney’s will be the new site of the annual plunge which to date has raised nearly $1 million for scholarships, financial aid and projects in Catholic schools.

Organizer Jim Shaw, a graduate of St. Ann School, Keansburg, and Mater Dei Prep, New Monmouth, said, “People of all ages and from all schools that are eager to raise funds are welcome,” and noted the AOH raises all funds necessary to host and manage the event, thus, all money raised directly benefits the participating schools.

Participants for the kick-off meeting are urged to R.S.V.P. to Shaw by Sept. 10 at [email protected]. Food and beverages will be available before the meeting at your own cost. Rooney’s is located at 100 Ocean Avenue, Long Branch.
