Point Pleasant Beach parish to host workshop on forgiveness

The inability to deal effectively with anger seems to be endemic to almost every culture. However, Church literature and the mental health field have identified forgiveness as the treatment of choice for anger.

Topics such as the causes of anger, the healthy and unhealthy ways of dealing with anger, the unique role of forgiveness and the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation will be the focus of a workshop on “Forgiveness – It’s Good for Your Health!” to be held Jan. 29 in Kolbe Hall of St. Peter Parish, 406 Forman Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. Two sessions will be offered from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hosted by the parish’s Office of Lifelong Faith Formation, the workshop will be facilitated by Brother Loughlan Sofield, a member of the Missionary Servant of the Most Holy Trinity. He is currently the director of the community’s Senior Ministry house. His previous experience includes serving as director of the Missionary Servant Center for Collaborative Ministry; director of the Washington Archdiocesan Consultation and Counseling Center, and assistant director of the Center for Religion and Psychiatry, Washington. He has worked in almost 300 dioceses in six continents. In addition to publishing numerous articles on ministry, he has co-authored a number of books including “Principled Ministry” and “Facing Forgiveness.” His most recent works are “How to Avoid Burnout: Achieving Life Giving Work and Ministry” and “Oh Brother! Belly Laughs for Good Humored Catholics” published by ACTA publishing.

A free-will offering will be collected and registration is suggested. For questions,  contact Carol Pisani at [email protected] or 732-892-0049, ext. 303.
