Plastic pollution the topic for Wayside parish series

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

St. Anselm Parish, Wayside, will present its second in a monthly series of talks on “Laudato Sí: On Care for Our Common Home,” 2-4 p.m. Nov. 10. The topic will cover “Plastics Pollution – Rethink Disposables.”

With a goal to encourage participants to learn how one person and the community can make a difference in climate change, the talk will feature speaker Janet Tauro, New Jersey Board Chair of Clean Water Action. Tauro is a founding member of Grandmothers, Mothers, and More for Energy Safety, and is a former reporter for The Record newspaper (formerly Bergen Record).

Clean Water Action was the leader in securing the early retirement of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant ten years ahead of schedule, and plays a large role in addressing plastic pollution in New Jersey, lead in drinking water, renewables, and other climate change initiatives.

The talk is sponsored by St. Anselm’s Human Concerns / Social Justice Committee, and is free and open to all. A free will offering will be accepted to offset expenses, and light refreshments will be provided. St. Anselm Church is located at 1028 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls.
