Stately Patriots Theater in the Trenton War Memorial will resound with Oscar-winning film music Sept. 29 when Peter Nero and his Philly Pops Orchestra return once again for a concert to benefit Morris Hall and the St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, Lawrenceville.

“A Night at the Oscars,” featuring songs from many popular movies, will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $35 - $85 and can be purchased online at www.thewarmemorial.com or by calling (609) 791-9451.

The concert will feature Tony award winner Jodi Benson, who may be best known as the “voice” of Ariel in the Academy Award winning Walt Disney film, “The Little Mermaid.” Appearing along with Benson will be Sal Viviano who made his Broadway debut in “The Three Musketeers.”

Benson, also the voice of Tour Guide Barbie in Disney’s “Toy Story II,” received her Tony and a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for creating the starring role of Polly in the Gershwin musical, “Crazy for You.” Her extensive resume also includes the Cartoon Network’s hit, “Camp Lazlo.”

Philadelphia favorite Sal Viviano, who also appeared on Broadway in “Romance/Romance,” and “Legally Blonde,” among other shows, has appeared on the small screen in such series as “Law and Order,” “Ryan’s Hope,” “One Life to Live” and “All My Children.”

Viviano has appeared with over 120 orchestras and can be heard on 60 recordings, including his newly-released solo CD, “The Standards of Love, A Live Album.”

They are sure to shine as they perform under the baton of Nero, who received his first Grammy Award more than four decades ago, garnering a “Best New Artist” statuette in 1961. Since then, he has received a second Grammy and 10 Grammy nominations and recorded 67 albums.

Statuettes aside, the maestro has often said that his greatest achievement is founding the world renowned Philly Pops, one of the largest independent pops orchestras in the country.

Proceeds of the concert will benefit The Foundation of Morris Hall/St. Lawrence which helps to provide quality healthcare for uninsured patients and indigent residents in both of those facilities. It also provides medical equipment for patients and residents which is not reimbursed by healthcare insurance and promotes safety education and injury prevention programs in the community for children and caretakers.

Information on Patron Tickets, which include a champagne reception with Nero, Benson and Viviano, can be purchased by calling Jane Millner at (609) 896-9500, ext. 2215 or emailing her at [email protected]
