Just as Catholic Schools Week is an annual event that celebrates the achievements of the Catholic school system, National Catechetical Sunday each year on the third Sunday in September is a time to recognize and show appreciation for the many women and men who have responded to the Church’s invitation to serve as catechetical ministers. Such folks who assume the important work of evangelization and bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ serve in Catholic schools, parish religious education, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, adult faith formation, youth ministry and sacramental preparation programs.

Parishes throughout the Diocese of Trenton joined Catholic parishes across the country the weekend of Sept 20-21 in celebration of National Catechetical Sunday, which this year had as its theme, “God’s Gift of Forgiveness.”

Many parishes in the Diocese observed Catechetical Sunday during weekend Masses, with some holding special commissioning ceremonies of their catechists and blessings of parents and guardians, recognizing them for the important role they have in handing on the faith to the next generation.
