Parish mission: Rekindling spiritual flame

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

Rekindling the Fire will serve as the theme of a parish mission to be held Nov. 15-19 in St. Mary Parish, Colts Neck.

The parish mission will open the weekend of Nov. 15-16 during which presenter, Father Jack Conley, will preach at all Masses. He will also preach on different spiritual subjects at the 9 a.m. weekday Masses, Nov. 17-19. In the evenings from 7:30-8:30, he will present spiritual talks on the following topics: “Vision: From Wounds to Wonder – Seeing as God Sees,” Nov.  17; “Passion: From Magic to Mystery – Cultivating Spiritual Growth,” Nov. 18, and “Hope: From Grumble to Gratitude – To Expect the Unexpected,” Nov. 19. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available after each service. Spiritual counseling will be available after the weekday morning Masses.

Father Conley is a Passionist priest associated with the Passionist Community at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago. The Passionists are a religious institute founded by St. Paul of the Cross in Italy during the early 18th century. The Passionists are centered upon the Passion of Jesus and the Sacred Heart. In terms of ministry, rather than opening schools and universities, the Passionist calling has generally been that of preaching and facilitating missions and retreats.

Father Conley was born in Chicago in 1949.  After graduating from DePaul University, Chicago, he entered the Passionist Novitiate, and was professed as a Passionist in 1972.

In 1976, Father Conley completed his theological studies at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, where he received a master of divinity degree.  He was ordained a priest after graduation from Catholic Theological Union.

Father Conley has continued his studies in liturgy, preaching and spirituality during his years of priesthood and Passionist Religious Life.  He has also served in a variety of ministries: a retreat preacher, the coordinator of campus ministry for Bellarmine University, Louisville, Ky., vocation director for the Passionists, associate director of Passionist Retreat Centers, and pastor of two Passionist Parishes  in Chicago and Louisville.
