Our Lady of the Angels Parish plans Columbus Day celebration

The traditional Columbus Day celebration in the City of Trenton will mark its 12th anniversary Oct. 14 beginning with Mass at 11 a.m.
in Our Lady of the Angels Parish-Immaculate Conception Church, 540 Chestnut St., Trenton. The Mass will be celebrated by Father Alcides Castro-Lopez, pastor of Our Lady of the Angels Parish.
The event is co-sponsored by Our Lady of the Angels Parish, the Honorary Vice Counsul Emerita and Consular Correspondent, Cav. Gilda Rorro Baldassari and the New Jersey Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission.
This year, the event will highlight the significance of Christopher Columbus’ encounter with the New World by inviting Haitian and Latino communities to participate in the commemoration which is open to everyone.
Special guests will be “Lo Zampognaro. Lagaro,” a folklore group of singers and dancers from Pomarolo, Trento, Trentino Alto Adige in Italy.
The group will perform for the community at the conclusion of the Mass in front of the church’s main entrance. A luncheon in the parish hall (located below St. Joachim Church) will follow at 1 p.m. and the festivities will continue with additional entertainment by “Lo Zampognaro. Lagaro.” Tickets for the luncheon are $20.
