OUR DIOCESE TODAY: Mass for Life in Trenton to be livestreamed; Questions about the flu

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

On Monday, Jan. 22, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will celebrate the second of two diocesan Masses for Life to mark the tragic 45th anniversary of legal abortion in the United States.  The Mass, which will be livestreamed here for those who cannot attend, will begin at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in Trenton, and will be followed by the nearby Rally for Life in front of the Statehouse Annex beginning at 11 a.m.

On-street metered parking and several paid parking facilities will be available near the Cathedral.  Some Mass-goers will walk in procession to the Statehouse Annex for the rally.  Check in with New Jersey Right to Life for details on the rally.

If you missed the Jan. 18 Preparatory Mass on the eve of the March for Life, which was celebrated by the Bishop in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral in Freehold, you can view an archive of the livestream here.  Comprehensive coverage of this Mass and the Jan. 19 March for Life in Washington, D.C., is available here and will be published in the Jan. 25 print edition of The Monitor.

In response to questions spurred by the current flu outbreak, the Diocese has issued this advisory:

With the guidance of the bishop it is the role of the pastor to judge whatever measures are needed to ensure the well-being of his parish community and to take every opportunity to remind the faithful that they should refrain from receiving Communion from the chalice if they are ill.  The sick are not obliged to attend Mass and should use prudence and good judgment before coming into contact with others.
