Oremus study series in Holmdel parish

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

St. Catharine Parish, Holmdel, will host an eight-week Oremus prayer program from April 24 to June 14. Sessions will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Rooms 16 and 17 and will be facilitated by Marianite of Holy Cross Sister Patricia Schladebeck, parish counselor, and Kathy McBurnie, pastoral associate/youth ministry director.

The program comes on the heels of a 24-week Bible study program using The Great Adventure Bible series by Jeff Cavins.

“We want to incorporate some of that study into our continuing prayer,” said McBurnie, who explained that the Oremus study program teaches the essentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life. “It’s really a Catholic guide to prayer.”

Through video presentations, group discussions and prayer experiences, participants will become aware of God’s presence in their lives; discover the simple yet profound steps of Catholic prayer; learn how to respond to God and express themselves in prayer; discover how to hear God’s voice in Scripture and learn how to overcome frustrations and distractions.

Sister Pat Schladebeck, St. Catharine Parish counselor, will help lead the program along with McBurnie. “She plans retreats beautifully, so she adds the atmosphere,” McBurnie explained. “She really tailors the programs to us.”

Registration forms are available in the parish office or gathering space. Cost is $25. Make checks payable to “The Church of St. Catharine” and include Oremus in the memo line.
