'Now and at the Hour of Our Death' Conference

Via Lucis, The Samaritan Hospice Ministry for Catholic patients and families in collaboration with the Diocese of Trenton, Department of Pastoral Care and the Diocese of Camden, Office of Lifelong Faith Formation, will host “Now and at the Hour of Our Death” Conference, the sixth annual pastoral care workshop April 28 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Holy Name Church, 260 Conrow Rd., Delran.    

The day begins with registration and a continental breakfast sponsored by Brandywine Senior Living at 8 a.m., program begins at 9 a.m. and closing ritual at 12:30 p.m.  Participants will attend the keynote and their choice of one breakout session. 

The keynote “Treading on Sacred Ground:  Ministry of Compassionate Relating” will be presented by Dr. Beverly Musgrave, pastoral counselor, spiritual director and licensed mental health counselor.  The workshop will focus on the privilege of relating to the seriously ill patient and family and the various systems involved in the care of the patient.  At the end of this workshop participants will be able to articulate the sacred ground of the ministry of compassionate relating.

There will be a choice of two breakout sessions, session one “Compassion Fatigue:  Caring for the Caregiver,” presented by Marianne M. Holler, hospice and palliative care physician for Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice and Katherine Kehoe, bereavement counselor for Samaritan Center for Grief Support and session two “Presence:  Compassion in the Moment” presented by Sally Cezo, manager of volunteer services and Elizabeth R. Warner, chaplain and spiritual support counselor, both for Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice.

The workshop is geared for priests and religious, healthcare practitioners, caregivers, deacons and wives, lay ecclesial ministers, parish volunteers and lay ministers.
