A nationally recognized professor, author and theologian will make back-to-back appearances in the Diocese of Trenton this August.

Dr. Edward Sri, a professor of theology and Scripture in the Master’s in Catechesis and Evangelization program in Augustine Institute, Denver, Colo., will be the speaker at a Marriage Ministry Gathering Aug. 17, and again during a diocesan Formation Day Aug. 18.

All married couples in the Diocese of Trenton are encouraged at attend “Beloved: Finding Happiness in Marriage,” a Marriage Ministry Gathering planned for Aug. 17 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Freehold.

The program, sponsored by the diocesan Department of Youth, Marriage and Family Life, will include Dr. Sri’s inspirational presentation at 6:45 p.m., Mass at about 7:45 p.m., and a pie tasting dessert reception in the parish hall, which will include a pie-baking contest with a $100 prize.

“We all know that there are some struggles and difficulties in our marriages,” said Josue Arriola, director of the diocesan Department of Youth, Marriage and Family Life. “Happiness is not outside of our marriage; happiness is inside of our marriage.”

Arriola, a former student of Dr. Sri during his own time pursuing a master’s degree in the Aquinas Institute, said that the presentation will discuss the happiness that comes from living according to God’s plan, as well as the decision that all Catholics are called to make, to love others. He said that the power of Dr. Sri’s presentations comes from his personal experiences.

“He is an authentic witness of what he talks about, and that is what is powerful,” said Arriola. “He is an incredible guy, and what he talks, he lives.”

To register for the event and enter the pie-baking contest, visit www.DioceseOfTrenton.org/marriageministry, or contact Jossie at 609-403-7151.

The following day, Aug. 18, Dr. Sri will return to St. Robert Bellarmine Parish for a Formation Day hosted by the diocesan Department of Evangelization and Catechesis. The program will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and will include a Mass celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Registration is $15 per person, and includes a light breakfast and lunch.

The presentation’s focus on mercy is not specific to catechesis, and so the program is open to all who are interested in attending.

Registration is required by Aug. 12, and can be completed online at www.DioceseOfTrenton.org/EdwardSri.

Dr. Sri, who appears regularly on the Eternal Word Television Network, is the author of two Catholic best-selling books, including “The New Rosary in Scripture: Biblical Insights for Praying the 20 Mysteries” and “The Da Vinci Deception: 100 Questions About the Facts and Fiction of The Da Vinci Code,” the latter of which he co-authored with Mark Shea. Dr. Sri’s most recent book, “Men, Women and the Mystery of Love: Practical Insights on John Paul II’s Love and Responsibility,” focuses on relationships.

In addition to his teaching role, Dr. Sri also serves as vice president of mission and outreach at the Aquinas Institute, and he is a founding leader of FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. He has written and spoken on many topics, including Scripture, apologetics and the Catholic faith. He also leads pilgrimages to Rome and the Holy Land, and speaks often before Catholic parishes, conferences and diocesan catechetical programming.

He holds a bachelor of arts in journalism from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., and a master of arts in theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. He also holds a licentiate of Sacred Theology and a doctorate in Sacred Theology, both from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome. He resides with his wife, Elizabeth, and their children in Littleton, Colo.
